 Our client is a long established, market leader in the provision of clean-tech, green energy, on-street infrastructure for public transport, active travel, retail and advertising media platforms. As part of ambitious strategic growth plans, they have recently launched a new outdoor media division which boasts an unrivalled DOOH offering and acts as a one-stop-shop for the provision of media sales and advertising within the marketplace and alongside their existing in-house capabilities for the supply, installation and maintenance services for roadside street furniture assets.

They are now seeking a highly ambitious Development Director to spearhead the growth of this vibrant new DOOH division, which offers a unique opportunity for an individual with a deep understanding of DOOH advertising to really advance their career in leading the development of the commercial opportunities that are available within local authority, town and city roadside bus shelter advertising contracts.

The Role

  • Work closely with the CEO in providing the leadership, commercial and business development activities required to deliver on the expectations for future growth of the DOOH division
  • Lead the implementation of DOOH business plans and oversee the management of divisional business activities and resources to achieve the desired results
  • Drive the development and expansion of the DOOH adverting division with an emphasis on the digital and classic 6 sheet displays range
  • Support the seamless integration of the client offering which requires the alignment of businesses capabilities in the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of the infrastructure with the creative DOOH advertising platform that sits within it
  • Operate as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team in winning the overall infrastructure projects including all the required market intelligence, customer presentations, bid, contract management and delivery
  • Responsible for identifying the resources required for success including the building the team. You will play an active role in the recruitment, coaching and development of new talent
  • As the media owner of the platform, engage with strategic partners including the Out-of-Home media / Out of Home advertising agency specialists: – drive negotiations from beginning to end, including scoping requirements, commercial and legal agreements
  • Manage ongoing and new partner relationships, position and sell the proposition of these valuable advertising sites to OOH Agencies across all specialist groups; build relationships and raise awareness of the innovative media platforms that are available to meet their clients intended target audience for UK wide DOOH advertising
  • Take ownership of the customer relationship, undertake complex negotiations as part of the overall contract including the share of advertising revenue, ongoing maintenance support options etc
  • Target and acquire potential partners, develop new business opportunities that will drive the expansion of new growth for DOOH advertising across the UK
  • Analyse the market and competition, gather intelligence, identify trends for leading/ emerging DOOH advertising companies & strategic ad tech partners to drive market feedback, influence the platform roadmap and the development of the targeted sales strategy
  • Travel around the UK to meet with customers and also to manage commercial arrangements with the specialist DOOH advertising agencies
  • Develop brand awareness and understand user needs. Identify sales & marketing initiatives to leverage competitive advantage for our DOOH advertising offering
  • Attend at trade shows and relevant industry conferences/events/awards

Candidate Profile

  • Deep experience in DOOH advertising: – you might be currently working for one of the larger Out-of-Home media / Out of Home advertising agency specialist or you could be with an emerging or early stage DOOH advertising company. In either case you’ll be actively seeking the “next step up” and the right opportunity to challenge yourself as a senior member of staff
  • A high level of familiarity with advertising digital displays and specifically outdoor digital 6 sheet advertising technology. You will need to understand how small format advertising contracts are written up as part of a wider infrastructure tender
  • Able to provide expert advice across our DOOH offering to our local authority, town and cities clients  for infrastructure projects, including the negotiation of complex commercial and supply agreements
  • Previous experience of winning DOOH advertising business including customer presentations, writing proposals, bid and contract management for bus shelter, freestanding retail and wall mounted offerings contracts would be advantageous
  • Proven business development skills: – you must be able to demonstrate well thought-out point-of-views for market opportunities within our DOOH strategy
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of ad technology, data and developments including the programmatic ecosystem
  • Strong commercial / financial skills, able to produce regular sales forecasts, reports & updates – keep colleagues informed and ensure that the customer remains on board
  • Results orientated and a strong customer focus, display a natural flair for developing relationships; able to deliver confidence and enhance our reputation for high-quality and innovative service
  • Strong understanding of and experience in contract negotiation will be critical to success in this position
  • Passionate about digital technology and new media trends
  • A high level of self-motivation, display enthusiasm for new business generation and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are a must
  • Strong attention-to-detail, a passion for solving problems together with the ability to unravel complexity, and commitment to executing against plan
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills are a must, as well as the ability to drive close collaboration across all areas of the business
  • Strong analytical, time management, organisational, influencing and prioritisation skills
  • Able to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ideally a degree or equivalent in a business, marketing or commercial discipline
  • Full UK driving license – willingness and ability to travel within the UK as required
