SENIOR PRODUCTION MANAGER - CHEMISTRY

Circa £60,000 basic + bonus + benefits

 

The Company

 

Our client, part of a highly successful international parent, is a global Life Science company that develops innovative products and effective solutions for separation and synthesis technologies within organic and analytical chemistry, as well as for industrial applications on behalf of demanding customers across the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnical, Food and Research sectors. The company has ambitious strategic growth plans and is planning a major scaling up of its capacity and capabilities within the UK operation.

 

The Role

 

  • Lead the efficient day-to-day operation of the Chemistry department in order to meet customer demand
  • Oversee a first class health and safety culture; ensure all legal requirements are met and that the department is compliant withISO 9001and 14001 standards
  • Ensure that effective processes are in place for:- planning, purchasing of materials, control of inventory, supporting product quality levels, production record keeping and the maintenance of equipment
  • Build an effective and motivated team; communicate objectives, monitor performance and demonstrate people development within an environment that supports innovation and improvement
  • Play a leading role in the growth of the department and in supporting the scaling up of theoperations at the UK site by overseeingspecific capital projects
  • Liaise with the on-site Managing Director in formulating objectives for the Chemistry production department
  • Ensure that standard operating procedures are in place and fully adhered to
  • Manage robust documentation & control processes; update procedures as required as demand changes
  • Manage cost centre spend against budget, raise any capital requests and personnelrequirements for approval
  • Maintain accurate material records for the ERP system and ensure that BOM’s reflect actual costs
  • Liaise with third party outsourced suppliers ensuring that quality, cost and time requirements are met
  • Build a culture of continuous improvement with regard to safety, efficiency, quality and environment.
  • Ensure production equipment is properly maintained and hazardous chemicals are correctly stored and handled
  • Oversee and enhance KPI’s to accurately measure departmental performance
  • Provide support & technical knowledge for chemistry production issues across the company

 

The Candidate

 

  • Strong chemistry production background with a good degree(or equivalent) in a chemistry related discipline
  • Good knowledge and experience of health and safety legislation
  • Significant experience of working in a chemistry related production environment with a continual improvement culture. Experience of working within a large chemical manufacturing company may be particularly advantageous
  • Knowledge and experience of specific chemistry and environmental legislation
  • Able to perform with a technically challenging, highly customer responsive SME manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience of setting up a pilot plant or “hands on” involvement in the significant scaling up ofchemistry operations would also be advantageous
  • Experience of operating within ISO 9001 and 14001 standards
  • Experience of chemical engineering processes
  • Able to optimise production efficiency within an environment of physical constraints
  • Strong leadership, coaching & team development skills
  • Ability to work with an ERP system and maintain accurate records
  • Experience of change management and a real understanding of customer needs
  • Demonstrate technical credibility with customers and work with a high degree of autonomy
  • Possess a high level of integrity, business ethics and the personal determination to get things done
  • Strong planning, finance, IT and administration skills
  • A NEBOSH qualification would be an advantage
  • An appreciation of cultural sensitivity; occasionally UK & overseas travel as required
