Business Development Director – Heat Exchangers

Circa £70,000 + Bonus (up to 50%) + Car Allowance + Benefits

An exciting opportunity for an ambitious Business Development professional to join this market leading, engineering solutions provider with 34 operations in 14 countries. Working out of the UK Sales & Engineering Centre in South Wales, the business is undergoing a rapid phase of expansion with advanced plans to move to a new site in 2020 and offers unparalleled product design, development, testing and manufacturing capabilities for heat exchange, engine tubing & exhaust flexible products.

Working closely with the Business Unit Director, you will be responsible for achieving profitable, sustainable growth by leading the heat exchanger business development activities of the organisation. This focuses on delivering substantial levels of new business in this area by generating sales opportunities from existing, new and previous customers.


The Role

·         Pro-actively prospect, identify customers and market heat exchanger products to leading OEM’s across the Land Vehicle market (Passenger Car, Truck & Off-Highway) and subsequently deliver new business awards

·         Develop a sales plan that will achieve ambitious growth targets; drive target pipeline development by specifically targeting existing/ new customers and niche/new markets that will increase revenue and profit

·         Develop a good knowledge of the customers' business, requirements and product lines, risk assess competition, determine estimates of demand and identify the appropriate procurement sequence for successful capture

·         Build strong and trustworthy relationships at all levels of the customer’s organisation; qualify opportunities and conduct frequent visits to established and potential customers (UK & Mainland Europe)

·         Assume overall management of strategic & operational marketing as well as customer relationship activities

·         Develop strategies for establishing potential new market opportunities at an early stage

·         Generate appropriate cost models in order to ensure the expected levels of return for the parent

·         Utilise the technical support available within the business in order to present cost effective solutions which satisfy customer application needs and all legislative requirements

·         Respond quickly to customer enquiries & RFQ’s; ensure that engineering & technical capabilities are showcased in addition to the formal commercial offer and that all customer time line requirements are met

·         Provide market feedback to the leadership team, maintain an up-to-date sales forecast and produce regular reports  on competitive offerings, prospect needs and recommendations for future product development

·         Maintain up to date market intelligence on programme development, competitor activity and technical innovation

·         Work closely with colleagues across the  group, attend customer events, international conferences, trade fairs etc

·         Review the pricing of new and existing business to ensure that all financial returns are in line with budget / strategy

·         Ensure that programmes comply with relevant confidentiality agreements and support the continuous review and improvement of all aspects of the business winning function based on lessons learnt, feedback and experience.

·         Liaise with other departments to ensure that customer satisfaction is maintained at the highest level whilst addressing any issues such as service levels, enquiry response, contract queries, margins, payment etc



The Candidate

·         Graduate Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, an MBA would be desirable

·         Proven experience of developing business for product/solutions that are supplied from Tier 1 companies into OEM’S. You will therefore have a strong understanding of the land vehicle market for Passenger Car businesses, Truck & Off-Highway sector

·         Experience of working with thermal management solutions could be advantageous but is not essential

·         Have an existing network of contacts within the large automotive, truck, off highway OEM’s and be able to utilise these to open doors and develop business in existing and emerging technologies

·         Previous experience of working in a corporate/business focused environment and with the leadership team to align sales strategies, capability and solutions to fully exploit customer requirements

·         A proven track record of winning new business as well as in increasing revenue through generation of leads

·         Able to balance the requirement to work tactically and strategically to capture new opportunities

·         Previous commercial and relationship management experience within a technical industry is essential; you must understand engineering concepts and be able to communicate information clearly to stakeholders & customers

·         A strong intellect with the analytical skills necessary to identify current / future market requirements and position the business for future changes to regulations

·         Good written and verbal communication skills together with strong negotiation, personal presentation and organisational abilities are a pre-requisite

·         A good leader with a strong understanding of people behaviour and the self-awareness to react appropriately

·         A highly professional, politically astute individual who will maintain high standards for delivery, quality & accuracy

·         An organised and self- motivated team player who is able to work on own initiative, resolve problems and manage conflicting priorities in order to succeed

·         Sound IT Skills, including proficiency with MS Office applications
